Spring Garden

One of the joys of life in the country is the availability of space to garden. This is the first time in three years that we've planted a garden, and we had to plant enough to share with the slugs and the deer, but that's okay. These are heirloom varieties of butterhead, oakleaf, romaine, and deer tongue lettuces. Interestingly enough, the deer never bother deer tongue lettuce. Butterhead, however . . . I think they hear the new leaves growing and come on the run.
