Macro photography has been something that I began working with as I completed my thesis work at the University of Nebraska. I wasn't completely sure that I would enjoy it, but I find it endlessly challenging, as well as being a good excuse to teach myself more and more about our native pollinators.

This gray hairstreak, or Strymon melinus, is one of the most common butterflies in the Americas; their family, the Lycaenidae family, is the second largest of all butterflies with more than 5000 species. They are varied feeders (shown here on the ubiquitous dandelion) and enjoy a vigorous population worldwide.
